Items and crafting
Wildercord’s items and blocks: what each is for, its recipe, and where to find it. For every rune’s recipe, see Rune Recipes. For the swordsman’s weapons, see Swordsman’s Weapons.
The Wildercord tab in the creative menu
A grid shows a recipe where the layout matters. A list means the items can go anywhere in the grid.

Runes and blanks
Blank Rune
The plain tablet every rune is made from.
4 Cobblestone around 1 Lapis Lazuli makes 4 Blank Runes.
Used for:
- Every rune recipe: a Blank Rune plus a few items. See Rune Recipes. Once you’ve held a Blank Rune, all the rune recipes appear in your recipe book.
- The Twine Cord and the Scribing Desk (below).
- Tying Knots at the Fusion Altar.
- Attunement: some lands hold a rune of their own. Meditate there with a Blank Rune in hand and it becomes that rune. Its tooltip counts how many you’ve attuned. See Runes of the World.
- Lightning runes: drop Blank Runes on the ground within two and a half blocks of a lightning rod during a thunderstorm. When lightning strikes the rod, every blank lying there becomes a Lightning rune, a whole stack at a time. See the Lightning rune on Storm effects.
Also from: a Novice Runesmith (4 for 1 emerald), reaction and element-cast contracts (6 or 4), Archive library chests and the hall chests of the other dungeons, a closed rift siege, and some advancements (8 each).
Runes
Each rune is its own item, named after its rune (Fire Rune). Hold one and right-click to learn it for good; after that the item is a spare. Runes stack to 16.
- Recipes: Rune Recipes lists every craftable rune.
- Fishing: a treasure catch in open water is often a rune, and magic waters can tangle one in your line on top of the catch. See Fishing.
- Everything about them: Runes.
- Ranked runes (Fire Rune II) shimmer and come from the Fusion Altar.
- Spares can be ranked up or combined at the Fusion Altar, or sold and swapped at a Runesmith.
- A rune from an add-on mod that’s no longer installed shows as a Silent Rune. It stays safe and wakes up again when the add-on comes back.
Knot
A whole spell tied into one rune at the Fusion Altar, from a Blank Rune, a piece of String and one of your spells. Named after the spell (Knot: Ember Fan), it takes one socket, costs 10% less mana than the runes inside, and anyone can learn it with a right-click. Knots stack to 16.
Cords
A Cord is worn in the Cord slot above your off-hand (open your inventory with E). Each Cord is crafted from the one before it, so you build them up in order. Cords don’t stack. See Cords for everything about them.
| Cord | Sockets per spell | Spells | Runes up to | Mana | Regenerates |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Twine Cord | 3 | 1 | Tier I | 100 | 5 a second |
| Copper Cord | 5 | 2 | Tier II | 150 | 6 a second |
| Amethyst Cord | 8 | 3 | Tier III | 225 | 7 a second |
| Echo Cord | 12 | 4 | Tier IV | 300 | 8 a second |
Twine Cord
3 String and 1 Blank Rune. The first time you wear a Cord you learn Self, Bolt and Push, and spell 1 is ready to cast. See Getting Started.
Copper Cord
Shapeless: Twine Cord, 4 Copper Ingots, 1 Amethyst Shard.
Amethyst Cord
Shapeless: Copper Cord, 4 Amethyst Shards, 2 Gold Ingots.
Echo Cord
Shapeless: Amethyst Cord, 2 Echo Shards, 1 Netherite Scrap.
Cords can be enchanted with Wildercord’s Cord enchantments at an enchanting table, an anvil or with books. See Enchantments.
Mana
Mana Crystal
4 Lapis Lazuli, 4 Amethyst Shards and a Diamond make 1 Mana Crystal. A Lumen Antler works in place of the Diamond. Crystals stack to 16.
Use it: right-click to absorb it: +10 max mana, forever. Up to 100 crystals count (+1,000 max mana); after that the crystal isn’t used. See Mana.
Used for: every Tier III rune recipe (with a Diamond), the Wellstone, every staff and every focus.

Potions
Two potions, brewed in a brewing stand from an Awkward Potion:
| Potion | Brew | Effect | What it does | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Potion of Clarity | Awkward Potion + Amethyst Shard | Clarity | Mana regenerates 50% faster | 3:00 |
| Potion of Clarity, longer | Potion of Clarity + Redstone | Clarity | Mana regenerates 50% faster | 8:00 |

- Splash potions: add Gunpowder to any of them. Lingering potions: add Dragon’s Breath to a splash potion. You can also start from an Awkward splash or lingering potion.
- Lingering potions make Arrows of Clarity and Arrows of Mana in the usual way.
- The Potion of Mana can’t be made to last longer: it’s instant.
See Mana for how these fit with your other ways to regain mana.
Paper magic
Spell Scroll
One of your spells, written on paper, that anyone can cast once, with or without a Cord, whether or not they know its runes.
- Made: on the Cord screen, press Inscribe a scroll with the spell selected. It takes a sheet of Paper, an Ink Sac (or Glow Ink Sac) and twice what the spell costs you to cast.
- Named after its spell (Scroll of Splitting Frost Bolt); it shimmers, and its tooltip shows the spell’s readout and who inscribed it.
- Used: right-click to cast it; the scroll is used up.
- Scrolls stack to 16.
Everything about scrolls: Spell Scrolls.
Torn Page
A page torn from an old grimoire. Right-click to read it: you learn the riddle of a secret spell you haven’t found yet, and the riddle goes into your Grimoire. In the Overworld, the page’s margin also sketches the way to the nearest Archive: an Archive lies about 650 blocks to the northwest.
If there’s no riddle left you haven’t found or been given, the page says so and isn’t used up. Pages stack to 16.
Found:
| Where | Chance or amount |
|---|---|
| Stronghold library chests | 45% |
| Ancient city chests | 25% |
| Woodland mansion chests | 25% |
| Trial chamber vaults | 15% |
| Dungeon (monster spawner) chests | 12% |
| Desert pyramid chests | 12% |
| Fishing in open water | about 1 treasure catch in 11 (see Fishing) |
| Archive library and vault chests, and the halls and vaults of the other dungeons | often |
| The Archivist | 2 |
| The Cinder Warden, the Star-Eater, the Tide Scribe | 1 each |
| A Runebound | 6% (a Runebound Adept: 20%) |
| A Runesmith | Journeyman: 14 emeralds and a Book. Expert: 16 emeralds. |
Blocks you can craft
Fusion Altar
Ranks runes up, fuses two effects into a new one, and ties spells into Knots. Mine it with a pickaxe. See The Fusion Altar.
Scribing Desk
Any wooden slabs. A villager without a job becomes a Runesmith at it, and right-clicking it opens your daily contracts. Best mined with an axe.
Wellstone
A mana well. Set it on a ley line in the Overworld and it wakes: circles turn on the ground around it, and everyone within 12 blocks regenerates mana 50% faster. Off a ley line it only glows faintly. Wild wisps rise out of its mana at any hour, and a familiar told to stay near it waits there. Mine it with a pickaxe. See Ley Lines and the Wellstone.
Training Dummy
A straw dummy for trying your spells. Use it on a block to set it up facing you. It never dies: every hit floats up as a number, and its name shows your damage per second. Sneak and punch it to pick it back up. Dummies stack to 16. Hits on a dummy don’t count for contracts. See Training Dummy.
Runic Hearth
Cast spells at it to charge it, then it spends the charge on small boons for you and your party, or runs a ritual with friends. See Runic Hearth.
Backpacks
Extra room you carry: the Backpack (18 slots), the Reinforced Backpack (27) and the Runewoven Backpack
(36). Each bigger one is crafted from the one below it and keeps everything inside. Use one to open it, or wear it in
the Backpack slot on the gear tray and press B. Whatever is inside stays inside, wherever the backpack goes.
Everything about them (opening, wearing, dyeing, what can’t go inside) is on Backpacks.
Familiars
Wisp Lantern
Where your familiars rest. Use it to send the familiar that’s out home, or to call it out again; sneak and use it to call the next one. Its tooltip lists every familiar you keep. The familiars belong to you, not to the lantern, so any lantern works. See Familiars.
Casting gear
Worn in your inventory’s gear slots (Staff, Focus and Tome) while you cast, or held while a slot is empty. Full details on Casting Gear. None of them stack.
Staffs
One for each element. Two handles, two of the element’s material, and a Mana Crystal:
| Staff | Material | Handle |
|---|---|---|
| Fire Staff | Blaze Powder | Blaze Rod |
| Frost Staff | Packed Ice | Stick |
| Storm Staff | Lightning Rod | Stick |
| Wind Staff | Wind Charge | Stick |
| Earth Staff | Mossy Cobblestone | Stick |
| Life Staff | Glistering Melon Slice | Stick |
| Void Staff | Ender Pearl | Stick |
| Arcane Staff | Amethyst Shard | Stick |
| Time Staff | Clock | Stick |
| Blood Staff | Nether Wart | Stick |
Either hand: effects of its element +20% power, and spells with an effect of its element cost 10% less.
Greater staffs
A Greater Fire Staff and so on, one for each element. Can’t be crafted: they drop from the Archivist (50%, any element), the Ender Dragon (50%: Void, Arcane or Time), the Wither (35%: Void or Blood), the Warden (35%: Earth or Storm) and Elder Guardians (35%: Frost or Life), and are found in Archive vaults. Effects of its element +35% power.
Tome of the Fifth Page
Tome slot (or off-hand): a fifth spell to thread and cast while it counts. Can’t be crafted: found in Archive vaults and libraries and in stronghold libraries.
Foci
Focus slot (or off-hand). Each is a plus shape around a Mana Crystal.
Focus of Haste (charged casts fill 40% faster)
Focus of Thrift (spells cost 15% less mana, but hit 10% softer)
Focus of the Deep Well (+50 max mana)
Focus of Echoes (a 10% chance a spell goes off again, free)
Focus of Resolve (incoming spells hurt 20% less, but your spell effects are 15% weaker)
Foci are also found in Archive vaults and libraries, stronghold libraries, ancient cities and woodland mansions.
Two more foci, the Focus of Reprieve and the Focus of Grounding, help you survive spells. See Defensive Foci.
Trophies
Each of the three dimension dungeons’ bosses always drops its trophy. A trophy is kept, not spent: hold it up (right-click) for a boon, then it rests for 5 minutes before it works again. Trophies don’t stack, and fire and lava can’t destroy them.
| Trophy | From | Hold it up for |
|---|---|---|
| Cinder Heart | The Cinder Warden, in the Ember Sanctum | Fire Resistance for 3 minutes |
| Astral Lens | The Star-Eater, in the Astral Observatory | Night Vision for 3 minutes and Slow Falling for 1 minute |
| Drowned Quill | The Tide Scribe, in the Drowned Scriptorium | Water Breathing and Dolphin’s Grace for 3 minutes |
Blocks found only in the world
These blocks are part of Wildercord’s dungeons and events. They can’t be broken or collected in survival. The first three appear in the creative menu for builders.
| Block | Where | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Rune Seal | The Archive’s doors | Each is carved with an element’s glyph. Strike it with a spell of that element and every block of that element in the door lights up. Light every element in the door within ten seconds and the door dissolves. See The Archive. |
| Archive Lectern | The heart of the Archive | The Archivist rises from it the first time a player comes near. It goes quiet once the Archivist falls (if its Archivist is lost without being killed, it wakes a new one a few minutes later). |
| Dungeon Altar | The heart of each dimension dungeon’s arena | The dungeon’s boss rises from it the first time a player comes near: the Cinder Warden, the Star-Eater or the Tide Scribe. It goes quiet once the boss falls. |
| Fallen Star | Where a star comes down in a starfall | A glowing lump of starstone that can’t be mined, and that even the Wither can’t break. Once its guards are beaten, use it to break it open for a rune and a Mana Crystal. It crumbles once looted, or fades after twenty minutes. It has no item at all. |
