Siltcrest Bittern
What it is
A streaked marsh bird with long legs and a coiling neck. It hunts fish from the bank in swamps and mangrove swamps. It is peaceful wildlife to watch and feed.

How to get it
Look along shallow, open banks in swamps and mangrove swamps.
How to use it
Watch it hunt
On clear nights, a hungry bittern walks to a dry bank next to wild cod or salmon. At least three fish must be close by. The hunt goes like this:
- It coils its neck.
- It strikes once with its bill.
- If it catches the fish, it preens.
A caught fish keeps the bittern full for 5 minutes. The fish drops what it normally would.
It leaves these fish alone:
- named fish
- fish from buckets
- tropical fish and pufferfish
- fish in crowded ponds

Feed it
Crouch close and right-click it with raw cod or salmon. It eats one fish, and that starts the same 5-minute rest as a catch. You can’t skip the rest by feeding it again or reloading the world.
Shelter
In daylight or rain, it walks to a dry, covered spot on the bank and rests there.

Tips and counterplay
- Crouch to watch from close by. A noisy approach or getting hurt makes it back away.
- Fish that move can make its strike miss.
- Tidebreath on an allied bittern can interrupt its hunt and make it preen. A wild bittern doesn’t react.
