The Arena

What it is

An Arena Stone turns a duel into a ranked bout. Two casters step up to the same stone and fight round it on the duel’s own rules: nobody dies, nothing is dropped, and both are put back as they began. What changes is your rating, and with it your rank on the season’s ladder.

How to get it

Craft it from two Gold Ingots, an Amethyst Shard, an Ender Pearl and five Polished Deepslate:

Gold Ingot Amethyst Shard Gold Ingot
Polished Deepslate Ender Pearl Polished Deepslate
Polished Deepslate Polished Deepslate Polished Deepslate

How to use it

  • Use the stone to step up. You wait there for up to a minute, and a restart doesn’t cut the wait short.
  • When a second caster uses the same stone while you’re still within a few blocks of it, a three-second countdown begins, then the fight.
  • Stay within 16 blocks of the stone. A ring of glyphs marks the edge. Stepping out, logging off or being brought down loses the bout. After three minutes it’s a draw.
  • Sneak-use the stone to read the ladder: the season’s top five, and where you stand.

You can’t step up if you were hurt or fought another player in the last few seconds, the same as a duel.

Rating and ranks

Everyone starts at 1000. A bout moves both ratings by Elo: beating a stronger caster gains you more than beating a weaker one, and a draw pulls the two ratings together. One bout moves a rating by at most 32.

Seasons

A season lasts 28 days. When a new one begins, every rating is pulled halfway back to 1000, and wins and losses start again from nothing. Only casters who have fought this season show on the ladder.

Tips

  • Ranked bouts don’t count towards your plain duel record, and plain duels don’t touch your rating.
  • Put the stone somewhere open. The fight uses a circle 32 blocks across.
