Rook’s Rainshield
What it is
A mended reed fan that catches one arrow from the front, for you or a teammate. It is plain equipment and uses no mana.

How to get it
Combine one of each in any arrangement. It fits the 2x2 inventory grid.
| Ingredient | Where it comes from |
|---|---|
| Windreed Braid | Craft from Windreed, String and Sweet Berries |
| Moonreed Floss | An open Moonreed after a Glimmerwing visits |
| Copper Ingot | Smelt copper ore |
| Leather | Normal leather |
Gathering Moonreed Floss unlocks the recipe.
How to use it
Cover yourself
- Stand still on dry ground and face the shot.
- Hold Use while looking at empty space.
- After 0.6 seconds, the fan is ready. For up to 2 seconds, it can catch one arrow inside a 70-degree cone in front of you.
Cover a teammate
- Stand within 3 blocks of a teammate on your scoreboard team. You both need grounded feet and a clear view of each other.
- Right-click them with the Rainshield to offer cover.
- Within 2 seconds, they must start a new crouch. If they were already crouching, they must stand up and crouch again.
- Hold Use on that same teammate to open the fan. They must keep crouching.
The fan covers only the chosen teammate. Cover ends early if either of you is hurt, you move apart, you lose sight of each other, or they stand up.
The cost of a catch
| Rule | Value |
|---|---|
| Wear per catch | 4 durability (65 total) |
| Needed to open | 5 durability left |
| Rest after a catch | 15 seconds, for both of you |
| Heavy hands | Mining Fatigue for 2 seconds |
A full fan gets 16 catches. The caught arrow is destroyed. It is not reflected or returned.
The rest stays with you even if you swap fans, log out or die.
Tips and counterplay
- It stops only normal, tipped and spectral arrows from the front.
- These all go through it:
- imbued arrows
- magic
- tridents
- melee
- shots from behind
- Walking, jumping, sprinting or turning away closes the fan.
- Against a fan: change your angle, rush the holder, or fire a second arrow right after the first.
- With a fan: save it to cover one dangerous crossing or retreat.
