Defensive foci
What it is
Two foci that help you survive spells. Reprieve spreads a big hit out over time; Grounding blunts a push or pull. Each makes your own spells 10% weaker, and they compete with your other foci (Resolve, Thrift, Haste, Deep Well, Echoes) for the one focus slot.
How to get it
How to use it
Wear it in the focus slot, or hold it in your off-hand while that slot is empty. Two copies don’t stack.
Focus of Reprieve
- When a spell hits you for 6 damage or more (after your defences), 35% of it is deferred.
- The rest lands now. After 1 second, the deferred part lands in four equal parts, half a second apart.
- It then recharges for 8 seconds.
- The deferred damage is real and can kill you. Taking the focus off or logging out doesn’t clear it; respawning does. Your armour and Resistance still apply to each part.
- A hit you block creates no debt. The remaining debt shows above your hotbar.
Focus of Grounding
- The first strong spell push or pull on you is cut by 70%, and you get Speed I for 2 seconds to escape.
- It then recharges for 8 seconds.
- It doesn’t stop falling or every spell that moves you. Anchor goes first and doesn’t use it up.
Tips and counterplay
- Reprieve buys time to heal or drink a potion, not safety. Heal during the installments.
- Grounding is for fights near cliffs, lava or the void, where one shove is deadly.
- Against someone with Reprieve, follow up quickly: the debt is still coming.
- Against Grounding, bait it with a weak push, then use your real one within 8 seconds.
- See Defending Against Magic for armour and Warding.
