Water and Burrowing Mounts
Two new mounts, tamed and saddled like horses. The Reefback Turtle swims you through the sea. The Delver Mole digs you a tunnel through soft ground.
Taming and riding
Both are tamed the way you tame a horse. Climb on with an empty hand until it stops throwing you off. Feeding a wild one its food calms it, so it takes fewer tries. Once it’s tame, put a saddle on it (sneak and use it to open its inventory) and ride. Two tame ones fed golden apples or golden carrots raise a young one.
Reefback Turtle
A sea turtle big enough to carry you, with coral growing on its shell. Look for it on beaches and mangrove shores, on sand, mud or gravel.
- On land it’s slow, a little over half a horse’s pace.
- In water it swims the way you look. Hold forward and look down to dive or up to climb, up to 75 degrees. Strafe to slip sideways at half speed. Hold back to back off slowly. Let go and it holds still in the water.
- It never throws you off under water, and while you ride it in water you have Conduit Power, so you can breathe and see clearly.
- It eats kelp, dried kelp and seagrass. Each bite heals it a heart and calms a wild one.
- It has 30 to 38 health and a tough shell (6 armour). It drops a turtle scute now and then.
Delver Mole
A mole the size of a pony, with spade claws and a pink star for a nose. Look for it on plains, meadows and in forests.
- Saddled and ridden, it digs as it goes. Hold forward and it takes a bite out of the ground ahead every fifth of a second, a tunnel tall enough for it and you.
- Look straight ahead to tunnel level. Look well down (more than 35 degrees) to dig down, and well up to dig up.
- It digs anything a shovel takes that is no harder than grass: dirt, grass, sand, gravel, clay, mud, snow, soul sand. It stops at stone, ores and anything that holds items.
- What it digs drops, just as if you’d dug it yourself.
- It never digs where you couldn’t dig yourself: claims, spawn protection, adventure mode and other mods’ protection all hold.
- It eats carrots, potatoes and beetroot. Each heals it a heart and calms a wild one.
- It has 26 to 34 health and walks a little slower than a horse.
Tips
- A reefback is the quickest way across an ocean, and the only way to explore a reef without coming up for air.
- To tunnel down safely with a delver, dig down a few blocks, then look ahead to level out.
- A delver can’t dig through stone, so in the hills it tunnels until it meets rock.
